The group were joined by Habib from Job Centre Plus, who facilitated an informative session about how benefits are affected by work and also the support available for people as they return to work, from funding for certain courses to interview outfits and travel passes. For many people, worries around benefits can stop them from accepting a job: what if it doesn't work out? how will I cover my first month's expenses? how many hours can I work? Members found out the accurate answers to these questions, which will help them to make informed decisions in the future.

After lunch, we welcomed our next artist, Vicky Ward, who ran a brilliant session about model making. Vicky's sessions will result in a cardboard-model of Salford. We began by using 'nets' to get used to working in 3D and exercising our spatial awareness:

These basic forms can be used to make 3D models of a huge variety of buildings, such as our own Brunswick House in Pendleton:

Then, taking inspiration from Salford buildings, we chose our favourite buildings and then tore them down...

Well, deconstructed them into their fundamental shapes. This gave us a template from which to enlarge them for next week, when we'll build our city on rock n roll (and some old boxes)
